HAYS, Kan. -- Dinner @ Six, a new program sponsored by Fort Hays State University's Office of Diversity Affairs, will have its first session from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, in the Memorial Union's Stouffer Lounge.
Dinner @ Six is an educational program that discusses a hot topic at each session. Professional workshop leaders Joe Bertolino and Bil Leipold will lead this semester's session, "When the Gays Move in to Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood."
"It takes funny, interactive and challenging programs to get today's college students thinking about important 'community issues' such as diversity appreciation and homophobia and heterosexism," said George Jackson, coordinator of FHSU's Office of Diversity Affairs.
"Yet today's students face an increasingly diverse world that will test their leadership skills," he said.
Intheir program, Bertolino and Leipold explore the realities and human dimensions of living in a world of heterosexual privilege. Drawing from their own lives, their experiences as fraternity men and student affairs professionals, their family experiences, and the dynamics of their own relationship, Bertolino and Leipold present this difficult topic in a non-threatening, humor.
A dinner of pizza, salad, and soda will start at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program at 6:45 p.m. Registration is required by Sunday, April 10. The public is invited.
