MEDIA ADVISORY: June features full month of camps at FHSU's Science and Math Institute

NOTE TO EDITORS, NEWS DIRECTORS: This is to inform you of upcoming visual or feature opportunities at Fort Hays State University.
HAYS, Kan. -- Summer for grade-school students at the Science and Mathematics Education Institute of Fort Hays State University begins Monday, June 6, with the Fast Track Science Summer Camp on the FHSU campus for students who will enter third through fifth grades in fall 2011.
Fast Track features extreme remote-control racing cars, through which students learn to analyze data and apply math skills in order to increase speed. This camp lasts until June 9. A Fast Track from June 27 to June 30 will be for students who will enter sixth through ninth grades in the fall.
Each camp day begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.
The next camp in the summer is Camp Invention, for first- through sixth-graders. This camp, June 13 through June 16, is an exercise in problem-solving and teamwork. Days are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Starbase Robotics Camp, from June 20 to June 23 for students entering grades five through seven this year, will introduce students to Lego robotics, using Lego's Mindstorms Education NXT software. Students will complete a robotics basic training program and then will apply that knowledge in a series of challenges and competitions.
Days for Starbase Camp run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
