HAYS, Kan. -- A ceramic piece by Katrina Florell, Hays graduate student at Fort Hays State University, was recently selected for display in the Workhouse Arts Center First Annual Workhouse Clay National Ceramics Exhibition in Lorton, Va. The exhibition will run from Aug. 3 to Aug. 8.
Florell's piece, "Binding," was based on the idea of how gender can be so defining and binding to a person's individuality. Female gender was symbolized in the work as well as fragility, femininity and the loss of individuality.
The ceramics exhibition asked artists to explore the theme of confinement in their artworks. Selections were required to be primarily ceramic.
