Sternberg Museum to dedicate nature trails

HAYS, Kan. -- Two miles of nature trails located just west of Fort Hays State University's Sternberg Museum of Natural History will be dedicated and named for Dr. Howard Reynolds, retired professor of botany at FHSU, on Saturday, Aug. 13.
This will be a day full of events beginning with a ceremony at 9 a.m. in the northwest part of the parking lot. All outdoor events are free. Maps of the trail will be available.
Morning activities include exercises in trail safety, bird watching, gardening, soils and flowers, and recycling and waste management.
Afternoon activities include insect collecting and pinning, fossil hunting, pressing plants, kite flying, face painting and a dunk tank.
James Leiker, the trail's architect, will start as Sternberg Museum's new museum educator Monday, Aug. 22.
As part of the day's events, admission to the museum is free with donation of one school supply item for First Call for Help of Ellis County.
All visitors are eligible for door prizes, and concessions will be available for purchase.
