HAYS, Kan. -- Free dance sessions hosted by the Fort Hays State University Modern Language Department and the Spanish Club provide an opportunity to learn the basic steps to four different styles of dance.
"The sessions are designed to teach students, faculty, staff and the Hays community how to dance these different dances," said Dr. Conchita Espino-Bravo, assistant professor of modern language and Spanish Club sponsor. "They are a part of the Hispanic culture, and this is a fun way of getting in contact with the music and dances of Hispanic countries."
On Wednesday, Nov. 2, Maria Solis, Kansas City, Kan., freshman, will teach salsa, which has many different Hispanic origins. On Wednesday, Nov. 9, Lilian Rezende, Sao Paulo, Brazil, senior, will teach the samba, originally danced in Brazil. On Tuesday, Nov. 29, Viviana Majalca, Hays, junior, will teach the Chihuahuan Polka, which is a Mexican polka. On Wednesday, Nov. 30, Adam Rusk, Thornton, Colo., senior, and Espino-Bravo will teach the flamenco, a Spanish dance of the gypsies.
All sessions will be in the basement of Wiest Hall from 6 to 7 p.m.
