HAYS, Kan. -- New T-shirts with "The Spirit Lives" written across the front were unveiled Thursday night by the Fort Hays State University Alumni Association. The Tiger T-shirt Project shirts will be for sale during the 2011 Homecoming festivities as well as in the Alumni office and online at www.goforthaysstate.com.
The Alumni Association's decision to unveil the T-shirts during the FHSU homecoming pep rally was a surprise to everyone attending. Dr. Edward H. Hammond, FHSU president, led the debut and explained that the purpose of the T-shirt Project is to fund the new Tiger Generational Scholarship, which will be awarded to the children and grandchildren of FHSU alumni and for programs for the betterment of all FHSU students. The association plans to introduce a new Tiger T-shirt each year.
"This is a tremendous opportunity to support FHSU and show Tiger pride," said Brenda Herrman, president of the association's board of directors. "This is a cornerstone and foundation to build a solid scholarship legacy fund for families of alumni, and it holds a dual purpose: raising money for scholarships and fundraising opportunities for FHSU."
T-shirts are on sale through Homecoming weekend at reduced pricing: youth XS to adult XL, $10; 2XL to 3XL, $12. Regular pricing of $12 and $15 will take effect Monday, Oct. 10.
"It will be great for future children and grandchildren of alumni," said Kelsee Hirsch, Ransom senior. "It affects me personally because I am from a long line of FHSU alumni and, therefore, it plays a huge role in my personal scholarship opportunities."
