HAYS, Kan. -- Students at Fort Hays State University may be looking at new benefits, such as short-term life insurance, 15% off of all classroom and LiveOnline courses for standardized tests, and low-interest loans with being a member of the American Association of University Women.
AAUW helps break through barriers to improve educational opportunities for women and girls.
It conducts groundbreaking research that draws national attention to issues of gender equality in education and the workplace, and influences policy-makers, educators, parents and students. Recent reports address topics such as the pay gap between women and men, economic security of older women, sexual harassment on college campuses and gender equality in science and engineering education.
AAUW is one of the world's largest sources of funding for graduate women.
AAUW is providing more than $3.7 million in funding for more than 240 fellowships and grants to outstanding women and nonprofit organizations in the 2011-12 academic year.
It's strength is in it's numbers as it frames factual, in-depth dialogue among legislators building political, institutional and legal support for women's equality.
FHSU's Women's Leadership Studies, Jake Glover from the Center of Teaching Excellence and Learning Technologies and assistant professor of Leadership Studies, Dr. Christie Brungardt, will host a meeting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Memorial Union on FHSU campus. The meeting will gauge interest and to recognize if there is a need and desire for AAUW at FHSU.
This meeting is open to faculty, staff and students, and refreshments will be provided by the Office of the Provost.
