HAYS, Kan. -- Fort Hays State University Theatre will present "Guys and Dolls," Frank Loesser's musical about a 14-year engagement and a smooth-talking gambler who meets a straight-laced girl and falls in love.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, through Saturday, Nov. 19, in Felten-Start Theatre in Malloy Hall on the FHSU campus.
A matinee performance begins at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, in Felten-Start.
"This is one of the most fun shows we've produced in my time at FHSU, and it will be the best sounding show we've put up, with great voices and a large cast," said Dr. Terry Crull, assistant professor of music and theatre. "You'll recognize popular songs drawn from this show, such as 'I'll Know,' 'I've Never Been in Love Before,' 'Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat' and 'If I Were a Bell.' "
"Guys and Dolls" won five Tony Awards for best musical when it opened in 1951.
"The story-line of the show is crap-shooters who are trying to find a place to hold their nightly game without being caught by the cops, with a sub-plot about the 'Save-A-Soul Mission' trying to convert the society of the New York Streets," said Crull. "In between, there is romance, comedy and lots of great singing."
