HAYS, Kan. -- Students from the College of Business and Leadership at Fort Hays State University and other departments around campus donated more than 4,000 pounds of canned goods through "Thought for Food," a program to benefit two community food banks.
"I am always amazed by the generosity of our students and faculty who participate in this project," said Dr. Anthony Gabel, assistant professor of management and marketing. "I am grateful to have the provost and student affairs offices join in the cause."
A total of 4,180 pounds of food went to St. Joseph's Food Pantry and the Community Assistance Center on Thursday in the initial delivery, the second delivery arriving sometime next week. The food will help these two food banks well into February.
Faculty and students from the departments of Management and Marketing; Economics, Finance, and Accounting; Leadership Studies; Technology Studies; and Allied Health also joined the effort.
The students from these departments took their part seriously, talking about the effort in and out of the classroom. This opportunity gave the students a chance to work on team building and even earn some extra credit.
"I was very pleased to see faculty from across the campus participate," said Gabel. "It was great to see the positive responses from faculty."
