HAYS, Kan. -- "Neutrinos and the OPERA Experiment," presented be Dr. Eric Deyo, assistant professor of physics at Fort Hays State University, is the title of the first Science Café of the spring semester at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, at Café Semolino.
In late 2011, researchers at the Oscillation Project with Emulsion-Racking Apparatus (OPERA) neutrino experiment, a scientific experiment for detecting tau neutrinos from muon neutrino oscillations, released data indicating that neutrinos can travel faster that the speed of light. If true, this result would require the overhaul of our understanding of the universe, questioning Einstein's Law of special relativity.
This event is sponsored by the FHSU Science and Mathematics education Institute and is free and open to everyone. For more information, contact Dr. Paul Adams at 785-628-4538.
