Three major music events coming to FHSU in March

HAYS, Kan. -- Fort Hays State University's Concert Choir and Fort Hays Singers, and Wind Ensembleand the Symphonic Winds and Encore Series performer, Jim Brickman, will come tothe Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center in March.
TheConcert Choir and the Fort Hays Singers, directed by Dr. Terry Crull, assistantprofessor, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6. The choir willperform seven poems by Robert Frost, including "Road Not Taken" and"Telephone." These seven poems were set to music by composer RandallThompson. The Fort Hays Singers will perform a variety of six pieces, includingthree jazz songs. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens andstudents 12 and under, and free for FHSU students with valid student ID
"This concertisn't very long but very beautiful and interesting and should be enjoyed,"said Crull. "The focus this year is text, putting text with music that canbe easily sung."
JimBrickman, singer and pianist, will perform as part of the Encore Series , at7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10. Brickman has two Grammy nominations, six gold andplatinum albums and 30 charted adult radio hits, including"Valentine," "The Gift," and "Love of my Life."Reserved seating tickets are $30 for the public, $28 for senior citizens andchildren under the age of 18, and $21 for FHSU students with valid student ID.Unreserved seating is $26, $24 and $17, respectively.
The Wind Ensemble andSymphonic Winds concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15. The WindEnsemble, directed by Dr. Jeff Jordan, associate professor, will perform fivepieces: "Soundings" by Cindy McTee; "Toccata Marziale" byRalph Vaughan Williams; "Lincolnshire Posy" by Percy Grainger;"Oracle" by Eric Rath; and "Noisy Wheels of Joy" by EricWhitacre.
"There are justunder 60 students in the Wind Ensemble," said Jordan. "Theinspiration for the concert is to provide a roller coaster ride for theaudience."
The Symphonic Winds,directed by Lane Weaver, instructor, will perform three pieces: "FanfareVariants" by Dennis Griffin; "Emblems" by Aaron Copland; and"Scootin' on Hardrock" by David Holsinger.
"There are closeto 90 students in Symphonic Winds," said Weaver. "We always strive topresent a varied program that musically engages, intrigues and entertains ouraudience."
Tickets are $6 foradults, $4 for senior citizens and students 12 and under, and free for FHSUstudents with valid student ID.
