HAYS, Kan. -- To raise money for Habitat for Humanity of Ellis County, the Fort Hays State University Leadership 310 class will host Raise the Roof for Habitat Band/Choir Competition. Raise the Roof will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 13, in Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center in Sheridan Hall on the FHSU campus.
Four bands, one choir and one duet will compete. Competitors include local bands, JAKS, a Christian Challenge band, 24 Hours, Radiat 3, Crossroads, and two bands from Lawrence, Plugged-in and Native Soil.
"It took a lot of brainstorming for the six of us in the Leadership 310 class," said Justine Chadd, Greensburg. "We wanted to have a family-friendly event surrounded around the Christian foundation Habitat for Humanity was built on. So it is mainly Christian bands that will be competing."
Tickets are $6 at in advance, $7 at the door, and kids 5 and under are free. They can be purchased in advance at the three Emprise Bank locations in Hays, the Student Service Center in the Memorial Union, or at the Habitat Restore located at the south end of The Mall.
