FHSU shooting team places second in national competition

HAYS, Kan. -- Fourteen shooters on Fort Hays State University's shooting team competed in the 44th annual Association of College Unions International National Clay Target Competition in San Antonio, Texas. The team received the runner-up team trophy.
"We competed in the largest of the divisions, Division 2, throughout the competition with more than 30 schools," said Dr. Duane Shepherd, associate professor of health and human performance and shooting team coach. "FHSU racked up a top-five team placing in each of the six events with numerous individual honors."
The members of the FHSU shooting team were among 520 college participants from 57 colleges across the nation. Students competed in several clay target venues: 5-stand, sporting clays, American skeet, American trap, international skeet and international trap.
The team had first-place finishes in American trap and international trap. FHSU came in second in 5-stand and sporting clays, third in international skeet, and fifth in American skeet.

BROKEN BOW, Neb.: Print Zutavern, sophomore, NRA All American Award, seventh.
CLEARWATER: Luke Laha, senior.
GERING, Neb.: Ashley Nau, sophomore, American trap, second.
GRAND ISLAND, Neb.: Kendall Hostler, freshman.
HARVARD, Neb.: Josey Nunnenkamp, sophomore.
LAKIN: Kilee Hutchison, junior.
McPHERSON: Travis Crist, senior, American trap, fifth.
MINATARE, Neb.: Cody Pedulla, junior.
MITCHELL, Neb.: Katherine Svoboda, freshman, American trap, third.
NORTH PLATTE, Neb.: Damian Giles, junior, American skeet, fifth; American trap, first, combined American events, first, and NRA All-American Award, third.
QUINTER: William Leighton, junior.
SPRINGFIELD, Colo.: Robert Ring, senior, international trap, fourth.
WELLSVILLE: Bryan Hull, freshman.
