HAYS, Kan. -- Linda Ganstrom, professor of art and design at Fort Hays State University, will teach a class at the summer arts program Hot Clay in Idyllwild, Calif. Katrina Florell, Hays graduate student, will assist her. Her program will be from June 24 to June 30.

"I am so honored and humbled to be asked to teach at Idyllwild," Ganstrom said. She has worked in figurative ceramics for more than 30 years. Her sculptures were included in "Form and Imagination" at the American Museum of Ceramic Art in Pomona, Calif.

Ganstrom's workshop, "The Figure: Hot Clay/Cool Characters," will be held in the first week of the program. Through the use of bodycast molds, participants will learn how to create multiple-part molds to develop realistically proportioned yet highly personal characters. Ganstrom will also show different surface treatments and techniques to alter facial features, create hairstyles and costumes. Participants will also use cold-surface paint and other treatments to enhance stained and fired sculptures.
