HAYS, Kan. -- Students of Fort Hays State University's Greek community gave 2,217 hours of service to the community and donated $8,483.50 to various charities in the spring 2012 semester.

FHSU's Greek community comprises of two sororities - - Alpha Gamma Delta and Delta Zeta - - and five fraternities: Alpha Gamma Rho, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon Colony and Tau Kappa Epsilon. A total of 169 students are members.

Each member gave about 13 hours of service and about $50 per member to local and national philanthropies, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Special Olympics, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and Children's Miracle Network. Ninety percent of fraternity and sorority members are involved in co-curricular or community organizations and 30 students were recognized on the Deans Honor Roll. Each chapter has at least seven FHSU organizations it was involved with throughout the semester.
