Eagle and FHSU Announce Video Partnership
HAYS, KANSAS - August 8, 2012 - Eagle Communications and Fort Hays State University announced today a five-year partnership which will bring advanced television and video services to the FHSU campus community.
"We are excited to continue our long-standing relationship with Fort Hays State University, providing advanced television and video services to the campus," said Eagle Communications CEO Gary Shorman. "Eagle has been providing television programming to the FHSU campus since television's inception and we will continue to be a cutting-edge technology partner, bringing advanced video services including DVRs, HD programming and TV Everywhere technology to the FHSU faculty, staff and students. The University's focus on mobile computing creates a need for video capabilities outside of the residence halls and Eagle's advanced technology will pave the way for even more cutting-edge video options in the future."
"With classes scheduled to start in less than two weeks, we are happy to join with Eagle in announcing this enhanced television service," said Dr. Edward H. Hammond, FHSU president.
"This will provide an even better living experience in our residence halls and educational enhancement in the classrooms. Eagle's innovative package also meets the demands of our students, faculty and staff for better mobile access to digital information."
This partnership brings the comforts of home to the FHSU residence halls and other on-campus buildings. FHSU on-campus students receive access to 120+ television and music channels in their dorm rooms and High-Definition channels with a digital TV - all without a separate set-top box. Students also have the ability to enhance that television programming with expanded digital television channels, commercial-free music channels and digital video recorders - all services that many students are used to having at home.
Eagle's relationships with the top vendors and suppliers in the country will allow FHSU's video offerings to expand as technology advances. With the emerging technology of TV Everywhere, FHSU on-campus students will be able to access additional television programming on their mobile computing devices - a staple of Fort Hays students' arsenal of learning tools for the past several years.
"Eagle's stable video-delivery platform allows us to implement cutting-edge video delivery to the University without a major infrastructure upgrade to the University's existing wiring," Shorman said. "FHSU students will be able to enjoy advanced television as soon as they move into the dorms this fall and faculty will be able to utilize our video services in a variety of classrooms across campus."
"As Gary noted, FHSU and Eagle have been partners from the beginning, ever since television came to western Kansas," President Hammond said. "We are extremely pleased to continue this public-private partnership that works to the good for the education of our students."
Shorman added, "President Hammond challenged us to provide an on-campus video solution to the University that was flexible and solid, yet capable of offering advanced video services in a seamless fashion to the students, faculty and staff of FHSU and we are pleased to provide such services to the University. The 270+ Eagle Employee-Owners have a strong relationship with Fort Hays, serving as adjunct faculty, advisory board members and a large number of our Employee-Owners are FHSU alums."
Along with enhanced video delivery in the residence halls and in various classrooms on campus, Eagle is providing video hotspots in Forsyth Library and the Memorial Union.
