HAYS, Kan. -- Students at Fort Hays State University will have the opportunity to register for the 2012 election using a new simpler online program called TurboVote. The Student Government Association and the American Democracy Project will assist students in registering Sept. 24 through Sept. 28 for National Voter Registration Day.
TurboVote allows students to fill out their voter registration form online and sends the form to each student to sign and return in the pre-stamped envelope addressed to his or her courthouse.
TurboVote also provides absentee ballots and pre-stamped envelopes to students who will not be in their county of permanent residence on election day.
This program is open to any domestic student, virtual or on-campus, free of charge courtesy of the Provost's Office. It is not limited to Kansas residents and non-students can register online to receive an absentee ballot.
Informational sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Memorial Union and in Forsyth Library from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The deadline to sign up on TurboVote to receive a voter registration form in Kansas is Friday, Sept. 28. You can still register to vote in Kansas until Oct. 16. Registration post-marked on Oct. 16 will still be valid.
To access TurboVote, students can go to fhsu.turbovote.org/register or to fhsu.edu/ccl and access the program by the link at the bottom of the page.
