HAYS, Kan. -- Have you ever wondered what life is like on the other side of the world? Students at Fort Hays State University have the opportunity to find out by participating in a new student organization called Tiger Voices, which connects international and domestic students.

Tiger Voices encourages students to expand their knowledge of other cultures, practice cross-cultural communication skills and create global awareness.

Students will be required to meet with their partner three times for at least an hour each time during the fall semester. Activities may include volunteering together, attending a campus event or, a sporting event, or just having lunch. The goal of these meetings is to make a connection and building lasting friendships.

"Here at FHSU, we have a high volume of international students," said Tre' Giles, Colorado Springs, Colo., freshman and student co-coordinator for the Global Leadership Project. "This program allows students to learn about a whole different culture without having to leave the country. It also give the international students a chance to connect to other students and practice their communication skills."

Pairs will be same gender and matched by interests indicated on the application. Once pairings are made, a kickoff event will be hosted by the Global Leadership Project.
