President Hammond to discuss challenges facing higher education on annual Media Tour
11/19/12
HAYS, Kan. -- Dr. Edward H. Hammond, president of Fort Hays State University, will tour the length and breadth of Kansas next week, Nov. 26 through 30, to expand on the theme that "Average is Over" as universities face new challenges in a tight economy.
With financial support for higher education declining in states all across the nation, universities must find innovative ways to achieve excellence in order to meet the increasing needs of the people they serve. President Hammond will explain that average performance is no longer acceptable. He will give examples of "average busters" at FHSU -- initiatives designed to achieve excellence at FHSU and provide the enhanced education opportunities Kansans need.
During his annual weeklong Media Tour, President Hammond will visit newspapers, radio and television stations, and with community leaders, alumni and friends of the university in Kansas City, Kan., Kansas City, Mo., Overland Park, Olathe, Topeka, Clay Center, Salina, Hutchinson, Great Bend, Wichita, Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal, Goodland, Colby, Oberlin and Hays.
