HAYS, Kan. -- All through the month of October, the Red Flag Campaign at Fort Hays State University spread awareness of dating violence.

Residential life supported the Red Flag Campaign by the resident assistants participating in a Bulletin Board Contest. The winners were, in first place JoBeth Nozicka, North Platte, Neb., sophomore, McMindes Hall, 5th; second place, Christina Favarez, Concordia sophomore; and third place Garrit Flax, Dodge City sophomore.

FHSU Athletics also participated in the Red Flag campaign by having tables at athletic events promoting the campaign. Athletes also signed a banner against domestic violence.

Every semester since spring 2010, the Women's Leadership Project has coordinated self-defense workshops in the spring and fall. Kenton Russell, instructor of justice studies, and the Defensive Tactics Club have led the workshops, helping students and faculty become more aware of how to protect themselves.

The Women's Leadership Project is also encouraging students, faculty and staff to get the TED smart phone app. This app, also called the circle of six, connects trustworthy groups of friends to protect each other in compromising situations in just one tap.
