Science Café to discuss citizen science

"Citizen science" -- archeology, for instance, or studying the ocean bottom, from "your own comfy chair, wearing fuzzy slippers," in the words of Dr. Paul Adams -- is coming to Science Café.

"Or, try your hand and eyes collecting data in your own back yard critical to understanding the impact of climate change," said Adams, professor of physics and Anschutz Professor of Education at Fort Hays State University.

"Citizen Science: Science Of, By and For People," will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Gella's Diner, 117 E. 11th, in Hays.

Megan Adams, Hays junior, will help with the presentation. She is an English major working as the planetarium operator and student observatory director for the Department of Physics.

"Find out how science today is more than just what happens in the laboratory," said Adams. "It is not just done by a select few who wear glasses and a lab coat, it's science for everyone. Feel free to bring your own device -- tablet, computer or smart phone -- to try out a few of the projects we will share."

Science Café is sponsored by the FHSU Science and Mathematics Education Institute. The presentation is free and open to the public.
