Diverse Classrooms of the 21stCentury Conferenceset Jan. 28 at FHSU

The second conference on Diverse Classrooms of the 21st Century will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center in Sheridan Hall on the Fort Hays State University campus.

The FHSU Department of Teacher Education is the host in partnership with the Kansas Board of Regents and the Common Core Institute.

Larry Hahn, from the Common Core Institute, will be the keynote speaker. Hahn has been an educator since 1982. One of his earlier accomplishments was becoming, at age 24, the youngest school principal in Texas. He led the way in helping to raise student achievement throughout his 13 years as a school administrator. This included a remarkable increase of test scores of 32 percent in reading in just two years' time.

Over the past 12 years, he has trained and helped motivate thousands of educators to improve teaching and learning including using the power of data to impact student results. Using his educational experiences, he speaks to audiences about how to make a difference in the lives of children, learning and helping educators focus on "what works."

Following the keynote speaker, lunch will be provided at the Memorial Union in the Fort Hays Ballroom and the Black and Gold Room for registered guests. Throughout the afternoon, participants will attend sessions pertaining to English language learners, diverse students and Common Core Standards with the day concluding at 3:30.
