FHSU to host Cottonwood Artist Series

A guest artist, faculty and students will perform as part of the Cottonwood Artist Series presented by the Fort Hays State University Department of Music and Theatre.

Dr. Todd Fallis, bass trombone, will hold a master class at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, in Palmer Recital Hall in Malloy Hall, room 115, on campus. There is no cost to attend this event, and the public is invited.

Fallis, a New York native, completed his undergraduate education at Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam. He completed a master's degree in performance in 1985 and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in music education in 1990 at the University of Southern California. Fallis performed with several orchestras, including Debut Orchestra, the LA Pops Orchestra and various parade bands at Disneyland. For the past 22 years, he has taught trombone, tuba and euphonium and music education courses at Utah State University, Logan.

He is an active clinician and has been a guest artist, teacher and performer in various states and in Austria and Scotland.

The Cottonwood recital, at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, in Palmer Recital Hall, will feature FHSU faculty, students and guest performer Ben Galloway, a recent FHSU graduate.

Faculty members performing include Dr. Lane Weaver, trombone; Dr. Kristin Pisano, clarinet; Hilary Shepard, flute; Kay Werth, oboe; and Luke Johnson, bass.

FHSU students include:

BISON: Steven Cornwell, senior, bassoon.

COLUMBUS: Nathan Froebe, graduate, piano.

DIGHTON: Stryder Montgomery, senior, drums.

HAYS: Noel Delgado, senior, trombone; Paul Flesher, senior, trombone.

OBERLIN: Katie Glading, sophomore, trombone.

TOPEKA: Chad Foust, graduate, guitar.

The event features music by Eugene Bozza, Duke Ellington, Eric Ewazen, Patrick McCarty, James Meador and Henri Tomasi.

Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors, free for students with FHSU ID, and free for children ages 11 and under.
