Films kick off the UHAE spring film series

Two films will kick off the spring semester film series hosted by Fort Hays State University's Union for Humans, Animals and the Environment beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Kris Kuksi Fine Arts Studio and Gallery, 807 Main, in downtown Hays.

"Education Under Fire" documents the systematic persecution of Bahá'ís by the Iranian government with a focus on education. In 1987, the underground Bahá'í Institute for Higher Education was established to give many their only chance at higher education. In 2011, the Iranian government launched an assault on the school and its leaders.

"Crisis in the Congo" centers on the Second Congo War, which has taken over five million lives, making it the deadliest conflict since World War II. The film explores the role the United States and its allies have played in the conflict.

The UHAE hosts documentary screenings on the last Thursday of every month. The films are free, open to the public and followed by a discussion.
