Tigers help senior citizens
Tigers to package food for needy senior citizens
Tigers in Service and the American Democracy Project at Fort Hays State University will host a Bob Boxes Packaging Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the old Walmart building, 3300 Vine Street.
Bob Boxes, endorsed by former Senator Bob Dole, is a program the Kansas Food Bank recently started to help senior citizens in need across the state.
"When senior citizens are on a fixed income, usually one of the things cut out of the budget is food," said Anne Drees, Hays senior, and American Democracy Project student coordinator. "The Bob Boxes provides food for those senior citizens who are facing food challenges due to lack of funds or other hardships."
The goal is to package 1,600 boxes in four hours. This event is free and open to the public.
The packaging event kicks off a three-week event series, "From Harvest to Hungry."
