The Interfraternity Council -- governing body of Fort Hays State University fraternities -- was awarded the Division I Risk Reduction and Management and Council Management Award by the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values at its recent recognition banquet.

The award is designed specifically to assist the council in achieving the highest level of excellence possible in risk reduction and management.

"I am very proud of the fraternity community and specifically Corey Moomaw, Greek Life graduate assistant, and Josh Doak, Interfraternity Council president, in their efforts in putting the applications together in order to enhance the FHSU Greek community," said Vince Bowhay, coordinator for the Center for Student Involvement and Greek Life.

The group competed against other Interfraternity Councils across the country that have two to six fraternity chapters on their campuses. FHSU has five fraternities, Alpha Gamma Rho, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon Colony and Tau Kappa Epsilon.

"We worked very hard this past year in order to create policies, have more roundtables and conduct our Interfraternity Council in a more business professional setting," said Doak, Rush, Colo., senior. "Through the process, we have grown as a council and community making it the best we've had for a while. I am very proud to be part of the this community and can't wait to get started on this year's applications in order to bring more national awards back to FHSU and Greek Life."
