FHSU students participate in Model United Nations Conference in St. Louis
Fort Hays State University students Jacob Kessler, Lakin senior, Seth Bailey, WaKeeney senior, and Tyler Hayes, McCook, Neb., senior, won awards at the recent Midwest Model United Nations in St. Louis, Mo.
Students represented the nations of India and Australia in their roles as United Nations delegates addressing worldwide issues. They participated in the simulation with students from 50 other universities across the Midwest attending almost 38 hours of meetings in three days.
"As their instructor, I was extremely proud of our students this year," said Dr. Curt Brungardt, Omer G. Voss Distinguished Professor of Leadership Studies and director of the Center for Civic Leadership. "They worked really hard preparing for and participating in this year's Midwest Model UN."
Kessler won the Outstanding Delegation Award and Delegates Choice Award for representing India in the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice committee.
Bailey and Hayes received Outstanding Delegation Honorable Mention representing Australia in the Economic and Social Council Plenary.
FHSU's Model UN Club is sponsored by the Student Government Association, the Department of Political Science, the Department of Leadership Studies and the American Democracy Project.
