Members of FHSU's Rho Psi Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, received several awards and distinctions at the organization's international convention in Portland, Ore.

Three students, Sheri Bedore, Bogue senior, Miranda Bridgforth, Hays senior, and Anne Drees, Hays senior, had scholarly and creative writing chosen for presentation by blind review.

Sigma Tau Delta has more than 800 active chapters internationally, with tens of thousands of active members. Only about 800 submissions are chosen for presentation from thousands submitted each year.

FHSU's "Lines from the Middle of Nowhere" 2012 edition received the Outstanding Literary Arts Journal Award. This competition is separate from the convention, but the delegation of 10 students and two faculty were able to accept the award in person at the convention's awards ceremony.

The editorial board of the 2012 edition were editor Jessi Bittel, Hays senior; assistant editor Nathan Riedel, Hays senior; Nicole Keffer, Russell special student; and Kat Goetting, Lawrence sophomore. The faculty sponsor is Dr. Brett Weaver, associate professor of English.

"Lines" is an annual publication featuring student work from across campus.

The current chapter president, Bridgforth, was elected by the chapters in the High Plains Region to be one of six regional student representatives.

Bridgforth will represent the region on the national student leadership board at meetings in the fall and spring and will help to plan next year's convention in Savannah, Ga.
