KWEC to host run, educational events
To educate the community about wildlife, the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, a branch of Fort Hays State University's Sternberg Museum of Natural History, will host an all-day fun and educational event on Saturday, April 27.
The day will start with the Wild Goose Chase 5K and one-mile Fun Run with registration and check-in at 7:30 a.m. and the race at 9 a.m.
The race will begin at the interior of Cheyenne Bottoms and will follow the dike roads towards the KWEC and end at the KDOT rest area along K-156 Highway. Transportation from there back to the race starting line will be provided.
Entry fees are $35 for the 5K and $25 for the one-mile. Fees include the race, chip timer, race T-shirt and snacks.
Awards will be given to the top two male and female finishers in each age category: 5K categories are under 18; 18 to 25; 25 to 35; 36 to 45 and over 45; one-mile categories are 10 and under, 11 to 18 and over 18.

A Live Birds of Prey program presented by the Milford Nature Center staff will begin at 11 a.m. The program is free and open to the public.
At 6:30 p.m., "101 Ways to Help Birds" author and radio show producer Laura Erickson will host a program based on her book in the Barton Community College Auditorium. Light appetizers will follow the presentation. Admission is $5 at the door.
