Spring music at FHSU to include faculty recitals, theatre, band and orchestra
Much music remains to be heard in Fort Hays State University's spring music season, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, with the FHSU Jazz concert in Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center and continuing with a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12, featuring Dr. Lane Weaver, instructor of music and theatre, on the trombone and Dr. Irena Ravitskaya, assistant professor of music and theatre, on piano in Palmer Recital Hall in Malloy Hall.
The FHSU Small Ensemble concert is at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15, in Beach/Schmidt.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for senior citizens and students 12 years and older for the three remaining events in April. FHSU students will be admitted free with their student ID.
FHSU Theatre presents "The Glass Menagerie" at 7:30 p.m. from May 2 to May 4 and 2:30 p.m. May 5, in Felten-Start Theatre.
This Tennessee Williams play is set in St. Louis in 1937. Tom Wingfield, an aspiring poet, toils in a shoe warehouse to support his mother and sister after his father deserts them. He then leaves them behind and is guilt-ridden the rest of his life.
Tickets are $14 for the general public and $10 for FHSU students.
"Masterworks," the last concert in the orchestra's season, is Saturday, May 4, in Beach/Schmidt. Ravitskaya will perform on the piano. The concert play list includes "Piano Concerto No. 2" by Sergei Rachmaninoff and "Solemn Vespers" by Mozart.

The Spectrum New Student Composition Recital is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, in Beach/Schmidt.
At 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, the FHSU Band will perform in Beach/Schmidt.
