FHSU to join in TOMS One Day Without Shoes event
The event is five activities in which participants walk around campus without shoes. The walk-through stations will allow participants to experience walking on various elements like sand or rock.
The Barefoot March in the Quad will begin at 11:45 a.m. Participants will walk shoeless with signs around the Quad. Other activities are Surrender Your Shoes, foot art drawing station and shoe drive.
TOMS comes from the abbreviation of "Shoes for Tomorrow" to highlight the goal that for every new pair of shoes purchased, TOMS will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need. TOMS One Day Without Shoes takes place in April and asks people to go without shoes to raise awareness of children growing up barefoot and the impact a pair of shoes can have.
Going barefoot many places causes problems such as infections and parasite infections. Schools generally do not allow students to attend if they do not have shoes.
Each event participants do throughout the day will earn them a ticket to enter for a chance to win a $50 TOMS gift card.
