HAYS, Kan. -- Kim Carlson, Shawnee, has been recognized by the Fort Hays State University Alumni Association with the 2012-13 Chapter Volunteer of the Year award and the Central Kansas Tiger chapter named as the Chapter of the Year for 2012-2013.
Carlson, a 1981 graduate, was invited to receive her award and be recognized by the Alumni Association board of directors at the annual meeting in June.
Carlson helped establish the Kansas City Area Chapter in 2010 and served as president of the group through 2012. Under her leadership, many activities and events were successfully held offering area Tiger alumni and friends the opportunity to gather in fun and informal settings. Such events included monthly "after hours" gatherings, pre/post-game festivities during the MIAA Championship basketball tournaments, Student Recognition Programs, Sporting KC Soccer and Tiger Day at KC T-Bones events, and more.
The Chapter of Year award was presented to the Central Kansas Tiger Alumni and Friends chapter, consisting of Reno, McPherson, Stafford and Rice counties.
Chapter President Lena (Sidders) Kisner accepted the honor on behalf of the chapter. The chapter, established in 2011, has held numerous events, including summer socials, back-to-school send offs, Kansas State Fair receptions, alumni dinners, BBQ and Frisbee in the park gatherings, and more. The chapter award includes a $500 cash stipend to use for further chapter development.
Established in 1916, the Fort Hays State University Alumni Association serves the population of FHSU graduates by identifying needs and providing solutions. More than 52,000 graduates live throughout the United States and approximately 73 foreign countries. There are currently seven active chapters across the state of Kansas.
