Full of energy and harmonious tunes, The Broadway Boys open the season on Tuesday, Oct. 15. They describe their style as having a "contemporary flair," ensuring a night full of musical entertainment by taking show tunes and classical music and making it their own. They have performed in Broadway shows such as "Wicked," "Mary Poppins," "Spiderman," "Jersey Boys," "Mamma Mia" and many more. The Aquila Theatre Company brings Ray Bradbury's science fiction masterpiece "Fahrenheit 451" to the Beach/Schmidt stage on Tuesday, Oct. 29. "This is a classic made relevant with superb acting and clever staging," says Aquila Theatre in its promotions. Bradbury's 1953 classic portrays an America where knowledge and ideas are forbidden and books banned and burned. It was made into a movie in 1966.

Danu, an award winning musical ensemble from Ireland, will present "Christmas in Ireland: An Nollaig In Eirinn" Tuesday, Dec. 10. Danu says "Christmas in Ireland" is a Celebration of Irish Christmas music built around such traditions as the "Laden Table," putting a candle in a window and touring from house to house on St. Stephen's Day.

The performance is sponsored by the FHSU Foundation, One Tiger Place, Hays.

"The Addams Family" presents on the popular TV sitcom and movie family of misfits and monsters as a musical comedy Sunday, Feb. 16. Wednesday Addams will introduce her "normal" boyfriend and his parents to the family. Cedar Lodge Dental Group, 1001 Cody Ave., Hays, is the sponsor.

Talented musician Jamiee Paul, performs "At Last," pays tribute to some of the greatest singers of the 1940s and 1950s, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Rosemary Clooney. She performs Tuesday, Feb. 25. Paul grew up in southern Illinois, where she was influenced by gospel and blues. She studied music at Belmont University, Nashville, Tenn. After graduating, she worked at various record labels before becoming a full-time musician. She performs her own shows along with her husband, Leif Shires, and her jazz combo.

Gilbert and Sullivan's classic comic opera "H.M.S. Pinafore," on Tuesday, March 25, has entertained audiences all over the world since 1878 and still remains popular. The Gilbert and Sullivan Players, New York, will sing and dance across the deck of the naval vessel, mocking Victorian class distinctions. As the promotional material says, "All aboard for fun, music and laughter."

Step Afrika!, the percussive dance group from Washington, D.C., hits the stage Saturday, April 12. The group promotes understanding and appreciation of stepping and dance traditions since 1994. Members conduct an annual 50-city tour of American colleges and universities. The group's website describes stepping as a musical form using movement, words and sound. In the United States, it grew out of song and dance rituals of African-American fraternities and sororities.

The popular Broadway musical "Memphis," Wednesday, April 23, is a Broadway musical based on a story from underground dance clubs of 1950s, Memphis, Tenn. The story involves a "DJ who wants to change the world and a club singer who is ready for her big break." The performance is sponsored by Chartwells, the official caterer of the Encore Series.

Reserved tickets are $40 for the public, $38 for senior citizens and children 5-17, and $31 for FHSU students. Unreserved tickets are $36, $34 and $27, respectively. Tickets go on sale for this show March 24.

This year's Encore Series also features a special performance of the Vienna Boys Choir, Tuesday, Nov. 12. This performance is NOT included on the season ticket package. This group of gifted musical children performs favorites that include classical masterpieces, pop songs, holiday favorites and medieval chant. They are sponsored by Todd and Andrea Sandoval on behalf of The Humane Society of the High Plains, 2050 East Old U.S. Highway 40, Hays.

Encore is a performing arts of the Special Events Committee. The committee's purpose is to educate, inspire, invoke thought and entertain. Special hearing aids and large-print programs are available at all performances at no cost.
