An annual meteor shower that produces more fireballs than any other will be the centerpiece of a party at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11.

"The Perseid meteor shower is perhaps the most beloved meteor shower of the year for the Northern Hemisphere," said Curtis Wolf, KWEC manager. "The shower builds gradually to a peak and often produces 50 to 100 meteors per hour in a dark sky at the peak."

He said the meteors radiate from the constellation Perseus the Hero but appear in all parts of the sky.

Activities, such as creating a star chart, making a meteor ball and having a marshmallow roast will be available for children.

"Bring the family to out to the KWEC to watch," said Wolf.

Information will also be presented on meteors, he said. The event is free and open to the public.

The KWEC is located at 592 NE K-156 Highway, northeast of Great Bend.
