Peterson named residential life director at FHSU

Rebecca Lee Peterson was named the director of residential life at Fort Hays State University and began her new position Oct. 14.
"Rebecca is a student-centered individual who is committed to creating the best living and learning environment for Fort Hays State University students," said Dr. Keegan Nichols, assistant vice president for student affairs.
Before joining the FHSU staff, Peterson was a hall director at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. She joined the FHSU staff as the assistant director of residential life in 2011.
Her professional experiences include oversight of an outdoor educational and tripping unit, orientation, freshman seminar instructor and student leadership.
In her new role, she will be responsible overseeing a 1,600-bed facility including the residential life and facility development aspects of the department.
Peterson is currently involved with National Association of Student Personnel Administrators-IV West as the parent and family relations knowledge community representative and serves on the program committee for The Association of College and University Housing Officers - International. She has presented at several regional and national conferences.
A native of Wisconsin, Peterson completed her bachelor's degree in English literature from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis., and her master's degree in educational leadership in college student development from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater.
Peterson enjoys spending time with her husband, camping and volunteering as an instructor for "Becoming an Outdoors Woman" through the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.
