Encore Series: Danú-Christmas in Ireland
11/06/13 bdb
This Christmas season, acclaimed Irish ensemble band Danú will bring its festive, foot-stomping tunes to Fort Hays State University at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, as part of the Special Events Committee's Encore Series. The concert, "Christmas in Ireland: An Nollaig in Éirinn," will feature traditional Gaelic and Christmas music.
Tickets go on sale Nov. 11.
Danú is a six-piece ensemble on traditional instruments such as the tin whistle, the bodhrán and the bouzouki. The singer, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, is fluent in both English and Gaelic, performing songs ranging from familiar Christmas carols such as "Angels We Have Heard on High" to "Le Caoinle na n'Aingeal," or "Candle of Angels," a song about the Christmas tradition of lighting a candle in the window as a sign of welcome.
Reserved seat tickets are $30 for the public, $28 for seniors (65 and older) and children age 5 to 17, and $21 for FHSU students. Unreserved tickets are $26, $24 and $17, respectively. FHSU students may purchase one ticket each on the night of the show for half price at the Sheridan Hall box office with a valid student ID.
Danú also has several albums available such as "When All is Said and Done" and "The Road Less Traveled." For more information on Danú, visit http://www.baylinartists.com/artist/danu/tours/64/.
