The International Student Services Office invites the Fort Hays State University campus and the Hays community to explore different countries and cultures by participating in International Education Week from Nov. 17-21.

"This week celebrates our FHSU international students and provides them a chance to share their culture, traditions and lifestyle with use," said Marnie Kohl, administrative specialist for the International Student Services Office.

Kicking off International Education Week, the Department of Music and Theatre will present "An International Musical Sampling" featuring Kay Werth, instructor of music and theatre, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center. It will feature music from Great Britain, Japan, Australia, France, Argentina and Italy.

Tickets for adults are $6, senior citizens and students 12 and over are $4, children 11 and under and FHSU students with I.D. are free. To purchase tickets, contact the Department of Music and Theatre at FHSU at 785-628-4533.

The International Education Week Proclamation Signing will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in Dreiling Lobby in Sheridan Hall. Refreshments will be served after the signing.

Three FHSU students will share their China summer study abroad experience at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Cody Commons in the Memorial Union. Tre' Giles, Colorado Springs, Colo., sophomore, Kyle Calvin, Ness City senior, and Karla Murguia, Hays senior, will present their experience and answer any questions.

The Creation Station will offer FHSU students the opportunity to create a handmade bookmark reflecting different cultures from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, in Cody Commons in the Memorial Union.

On the same day, Anna Hand, Ellsworth sophomore, and Christophe Cheroret, Hays graduate student, will share a cultural presentation on France and the Czech-Slovak republics at 5 p.m. in Cody Commons. This presentation will include a crepe-making demonstration and sampling.

"Mental Health and International Students 2014," a webinar, will be from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in the Trails Room in the Memorial Union.

The International Student Exchange Program and the National Student Exchange will have an informational meeting for students interested in studying abroad at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in the Stouffer Lounge in the Memorial Union.

The Department of Modern Languages also offers the weekly "Kaffeestunde," which literally translates into "coffee" and "study" at 5 p.m. each Tuesday behind Starbucks in the Memorial Union. Students, faculty and members of the Hays community are welcome to practice German while enjoying coffee.

FHSU will offer ongoing activities throughout the week such as displaying different country flags in the Memorial Union and serving internationally-themed cuisine in McMindes Café and the Memorial Union. In addition, international students will give classroom presentations in area schools.

International Education Week is sponsored by International Student Services, International Student Union, Student Affairs Office, Memorial Union, University Activities Board, the Department of Music and Theatre, the Kelly Center, the Student Health Center, the Office of Strategic Partnerships, the Department of Modern Languages and the Center for Language and Culture.
