An assortment of small ensembles from the Department of Music and Theatre at Fort Hays State University will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center in Sheridan Hall.

The Small Ensembles Concert will feature the Women's Chorale, the Smoky Hills Chorale, the Flute Ensemble, the Double Reed Consort, the A Capella Quintet, the Clarinet Choir, the Sinfonietta and the Brass Choir.

"One thing that is always interesting about this concert is the diversity--vocal, woodwinds, brass, small groups, larger groups, master composers, modern composers and some very new pieces," said Dr. Lane Weaver, assistant professor of music and theatre.

Opening the concert, Dr. Terry Crull, associate professor of music and theatre, will conduct the Women's Chorale and the Smoky Hills Chorale, a community choir, in a variety of pieces, ranging from classical to American folk songs. Pam McGowne, staff accompanist, will accompany on the piano.

Hilary Shepard, instructor of music and theatre, will direct the Flute Ensemble, which will play an assortment of pieces including a march and a minuet.

The Double Reed Consort-- oboe, English horn and bassoon-- will play "Bouree" composed by G.F. Handel. Kay Werth, instructor of music and theatre, will direct.

Next, the A Capella Quintet will sing "Run To You" by Ben Bram.

Dr. Kristin Pisano, associate professor of music and theatre, will direct the Clarinet Choir as it performs "Overture to the Magic Flute" by Mozart and "First Flight," composed by current FHSU music major Evan Strong, Pratt senior.

Ben Cline, associate professor of music and theatre, will direct the Sinfonietta, consisting of violin, viola and cello, in "Serenade" by Dvorak and "Adagio and Fugue" by Mozart.

The Brass Choir, directed by Weaver, will conclude the evening's music with three different pieces.

Tickets for adults are $6, senior citizens and students 12 and over are $4, children 11 and under and FHSU students with I.D. are free. To purchase tickets ahead of time, contact the Department of Music and Theatre at 785-628-4533. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
