In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Fort Hays State University will feature Trish Norman's "HIStory, HERstory, YOURstory" at 7 p.m. Monday, January 27, in the Black and Gold Room of the university's Memorial Union.

Known for a witty, entertaining style, Norman is an award-winning speaker, leadership expert and cultural critic. She is also an influential voice on issues such as leadership, women, pop culture and African American issues.

Norman is the co-author of "Leading the Way" and "From Mediocre to Magnificent," was a finalist for Campus Activities Magazine's Speaker of the Year 2012 and has published articles in Connections Magazine and The Future Business Leader Educational Journal.

"HIStory, HERstory, YOURstory" will engage the audience about who they are with the intention of getting them excited about who they are becoming. Norman reinforces her message of self-respect and empowerment through historical accounts with current cultural trends.

In honor of King, FHSU will also host a day of service on Saturday, Jan. 25 with a variety of community service projects in which FHSU students and community members can participate.

The projects are making blankets for needy children, learning about bone marrow donation, making cards for HaysMed patients, writing letters to troops, making a mini recipe book for Tiger Exchange, making hygiene bags for the Hays Community Assistance Center and donating gently used items for the Disaster Relief Drive.

All projects are free, and participants can come and go throughout the day from 1 to 7 p.m. The projects will be held in the Memorial Union.
