Insurance Planning has pledged $30,000 to Fort Hays State University's "Power of One" scholarship campaign, which will aid 10 informatics students each year for three years. A space in the new Center for Networked Learning will be named for the company in recognition of its generous donation.
A number of Insurance Planning's staff are involved in the FHSU community in countless capacities. Andrew Rupp, executive vice-president and treasurer of Insurance Planning, graduated from FHSU in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in accounting, and is currently a member of the FHSU Foundation Board of Trustees.
"The 'Power of One' scholarship campaign is a great opportunity for us to recognize the role that FHSU has played in our lives and the opportunities that it has created for each one of us in western Kansas and at Insurance Planning," said Rupp. "Giving the same opportunity to current and future students, and helping them to achieve an education and future success, is extremely rewarding to us."
"Scholarships are big. They make a world of difference to our students," said Stephen Schleicher, chair of the Department of Informatics.
"The generous donation from Insurance Planning will double the number of scholarships we have available for students. With these funds, students will have the opportunity to further their education and, later on, help businesses like Insurance Planning grow," added Schleicher.
This gift comes in the wake of FHSU's "Power of One" scholarship campaign announcement, which has an ambitious goal -- to raise $8 million before Dec. 31. This goal can only be achieved with the help of alumni and friends.
"This is a huge commitment and contribution from Insurance Planning. We are very thankful for the gift and super excited to have them on board," Schleicher said.
Insurance Planning has served business and personal needs in western Kansas for more than 45 years. With offices in Hays, Great Bend and Russell, its ownership is comprised of many FHSU alumni, and the company is proud to employ a large number of FHSU graduates.
Supporting the community means giving back in many ways. Throughout its history, Insurance Planning has been a great supporter of Fort Hays State University and its students.
