Encore Series to present 'Memphis' Tony-winning Broadway musical
04/17/14
Inspired by actual events, the Broadway musical "Memphis" makes its way to Fort Hays State University's Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23. Doors open at 7.
A tale of fame and forbidden love is told through the performances of amazing off-Broadway performers. The story, set in the 1950s, is about a radio DJ and a club singer who want to do bigger and better things with their musical careers.
"Memphis" is the winner of four 2010 Tony Awards. An award for Best Musical says "this is worth coming to see." It also won Tonys for original score, with music by Bon Jovi's founding member David Bryan, and Best Book of a Musical. "Memphis" is directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo.
