The Alpha-Upsilon Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity at Fort Hays State University has been placed on non-operating status as of April 2, 2014. The chapter failed to meet minimum fraternity standards and university expectations including membership size, academic performance and financial obligations.

FHSU officials support TKE International Fraternity's decision to place the chapter in non-operating status. "We appreciate Tau Kappa Epsilon's initiative to hold TKE chapters to a higher standard. The individual fraternity experiences should reinforce the pillars of the fraternity/sorority community, which are social, academics, empowerment, leadership and service," said Jacob Ternes, coordinator of student involvement and Greek life for FHSU.

Founded on Jan. 10, 1899, at Illinois Wesleyan University, Tau Kappa Epsilon is one of the world's largest social fraternities with chapters on more than 270 campuses in the United States and Canada. TKE has initiated more than 260,000 men since its founding. The fraternity builds better men for a better world.

Founded in 1902, Fort Hays State University is a regional comprehensive university governed by the Kansas Board of Regents. FHSU had an enrollment of more than 13,500 students by the end of the fall 2013 semester. FHSU offers degrees in 221 undergraduate areas of study and 126 graduate areas of study.
