Sternberg Museum to offer scholarships for children's paleontology expeditions
04/16/14
Some fresh donations have allowed Fort Hays State University's Sternberg Museum of Natural History to offer scholarships statewide to help K-12 students to attend paleontology camps this summer.
Grades K-5 will have an opportunity for 10 full-ride scholarships to the "Fun With Fossils," in which children will experience being a paleontologist, a $70 value.
Grades 6-8 will have a chance to get $200 toward the $400 Paleontology Expedition in western Kansas.
Two full-ride scholarships will be available for the grade 9-12 high school Paleontology Field Crew Camp, costing $1,100, and a one-year family membership to the Sternberg Museum of Natural History will be included with each scholarship.
"We only have 10 slots per camp," said David Levering, Sternberg Museum educator, "so the best chance for reserving a slot is to get the paperwork in sooner rather than later."
For more information, contact Levering at 785-639-5249 or at dalevering@fhsu.edu. To register, applicants must complete and sign the registration forms, the waiver and release forms, the financial aid application form, and the requested documents in the scholarship description.
