FHSU cross country team to host "Fastest 5k in the West"
06/26/14
The summer racing season begins with the Wild West 5k on Saturday, July 5, sponsored by Fort Hays State University's cross country team.
The run/walk begins at 8 a.m. at the Hays Aquatic Park, fourth and Main. Race packets will be available for pick-up before the race from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m.
Proceeds will help the cross country team with uniform purchases and other necessary team gear.
"Our flat and fast course begins and ends on Main Street, just west of the Hays Aquatic Park," said Jason McCullough, head cross country coach and assistant track coach. "The course loops through downtown Hays and passes through the FHSU campus and the Tiger Quad."
Mile markers will be clearly visible on the course, and a water station will be available just past the halfway mark.
Awards will be presented to the top male and female winners and the top three finishers in each age group. The award presentation will be shortly after the race in front of the Hays Aquatic Park. All participants will receive a T-shirt.
Registration is $20 per person if received before Monday, June 30, and $25 per person after June 30. Race day registration is available before the race from 6:45-7:45 a.m.
