Fort Hays State University's Center for Civic Leadership has released September's schedule of events promoting civic engagement.

Times Talk: Costa Rica, noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, in the back of Forsyth Library. Students who participated in the Global Leadership Project's international service trip will talk about their experiences in Costa Rica. Times Talk is hosted by the American Democracy Project (ADP).

9/11 Day of Remembrance, 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in the Quad. The American Democracy Project, partnering with Tigers In Service, will sponsor a ceremony to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks. The Student Government Association President Arin Powers will give a speech and a candlelight vigil will be held. The event is open for the public.

Paint-A-Thon, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, in the Hays area. Tigers in Service will host the fourth annual Paint-a-Thon. Teams or individual volunteers are welcome to choose between different time slots. Volunteers will help paint the houses of disabled or elderly citizens in the community. Ben Franklin Papers, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, in Forsyth Library and Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center. The Ben Franklin Papers is an educational day for fifth-graders to learn about Franklin's inventions and contributions to the United States. This event is sponsored by the ADP. "Call and Response," at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in Cody Commons. This educational film provides an education on modern day slavery. The Global Leadership Project, and the Free the Slaves Chapter are hosts. For more information contact 785-628-4497.

Constitution Day, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, on the Memorial Union patio. The ADP, the Department of Political Science and SGA are sponsors. Pocket constitutions and T-shirts will be distributed. For more information, contact adp@fhsu.edu.

Family Fun Day, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at The Mall in Hays. Volunteers will assist in running carnival games with Smoky Hills Public Television. Two time slots are available for volunteers, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or noon to 4 p.m. Family Fun Day is sponsored by Tigers in Service. To volunteer, contact service@fhsu.edu.

National Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, Sept. 23, throughout campus. Various activities will promote voter registration. For more information, contact adp@fhsu.edu.

"Where Do You Party," noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Memorial Union's Black and Gold Room. Sponsored by the ADP, it is an interactive event for students and faculty to learn about political parties. Representatives from the Young Democrats and College Republicans will be present. Information about the Libertarian Party will also be available. Food and drink will be provided. For more information, contact adp@fhsu.edu.

National Voter Registration Day Scavenger Hunt, throughout Wednesday, Sept. 24, location to be announced. The event is sponsored by the ADP. The eCitizenship Committee at FHSU will develop a series of clues for the day. Using Foursquare or Instagram, students will be able to "check in" at certain points throughout the day. RAINN Day, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Memorial Union. The Women's Leadership Project, and the Kelly Center are sponsors. RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) is an organization committed to spreading awareness about these issues. RAINN Day encourages students to take a stand against these crimes and serves as preparation for the Red Flag Campaign during October. For more information, contact womensleadershipproject@fhsu.edu.

Canned Food Drive, Monday, Sept. 29, through Saturday, Oct. 18. Tigers in Service, and Global Leadership Project will sponsor this event in honor of World Food Day. Donations of non-perishable food items will be brought to Custer Hall, room 202. This is a competition between organizations around campus. All items donated will go to FHSU's campus food pantry. As a nationally recognized leadership organization, the CCL helps students become "citizen leaders" who solve community problems. This model of civic leadership is based on the belief that everyone has the ability to serve as leaders and help their community a better place.
