08/13/14
Downtown Hays will flood with community members and Fort Hays State University students during the second annual Core2Campus event Thursday, Aug. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. Food, T-shirts, music and promotional items are offered throughout downtown.
"This year's March to Main is led down Eighth Street onto Main for a short ceremony by FHSU President Mirta Martin," said Core2Campus intern Lexi Copeland.
Students will meet on the Quad on the FHSU campus by 5:45 p.m. to follow the cheerleaders and marching band as President Martin leads the way downtown to meet with city of Hays elected officials.
"Food row" will line up along Eleventh Street to offer tastings, coupons, promotional items and items for sale. Vendors include Gella's Diner, TK's Smokhaus and Snow Cone Express.
The first 500 FHSU students, faculty and staff with Tiger ID will share in a free hog roast. Everyone has a chance at 500 free TGOF T-shirts and many other Core2Campus T-shirts.
Participating businesses will hand out raffle tickets. With six chances at a prize, these raffle tickets are entered in a drawling for $500 cash and five gift packages from downtown merchants.
Core2Campus is hosted by the Downtown Hays Development Corporation, Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau, the university's TGOF committee and Eagle Communications.
