FHSU faculty make presentations at Allied Academies International convention
11/07/14
Dr. Mary C. Martin, associate professor of management and marketing, and Dr. Carrol R. Haggard, associate professor of communication studies, both at Fort Hays State University, recently attended the Allied Academies International convention in Las Vegas.
Martin presented the paper "Service Learning as Marketing Pedagogy: Practical, Theoretical and Institutional Perspectives" to the Academy of Educational Leadership. The manuscript has been accepted for publication in the Academy of Educational Leadership Journal. Service learning involves students participating in relevant community service to enhance their learning experience in a course.
The paper reviews the state of service learning in higher education and in the academic field of marketing, presents a case study of service learning in a marketing course, and addresses the practical, theoretical and institutional perspectives of service learning.
Haggard and co-author Dr. Patricia A. Lapoint, professor of management at McMurry University, Abilene, Texas, presented the case study "Project Management (Part C): Crashing the Schedule" to the International Academy of Case Studies. The case was selected as the top case submitted to the conference. The award was presented at the conference banquet.
The case is the third in a series that examines the process of project management. This specific case explores the issue of what happens, in terms of added expense, when upper management shortens the timeline for developing a new product. The case examines the conflict that is created among team members when they are placed in a difficult situation.
