HAYS, Kan. -- Fort Hays State University's Kansas Center for Innovative Education (KCIE) and surrounding school districts recently presented the Make It Yours Regional Professional Development Day. Sessions were held at Hays High School.

A total of 335 educators from Hays, Trego County, La Crosse and Victoria participated a variety of morning and afternoon sessions, all presented by experts on their topics. The afternoon provided time for each participant to utilize the information shared with them and to collaborate with their colleagues.

The day commenced with a welcome from FHSU President Mirta M. Martin.

The sessions were: Google Apps for Education; No Textbook: No Problem; Bullying is Everybody's Business -- Make It Yours!; Positive Classroom Management; History; Government; Social Studies; K-5; English Language Arts -- Common Core Standards; K-Fit for Physical Education; Getting to Know the Next Generation Science Standards; An Overview of Youth Mental Health First Aid: Why is it important; and Effective Evaluations.

Evaluations provided KCIE with positive feedback. Comments included, "Loved the collaborative groups! Very useful," "Dr. Mirta Martin was wonderful," and "Overall, great in-service." KCIE plans to continue in-services such as this one in the future.
