Seven Master of Business Administration students graduating this fall from Fort Hays State University will be ready for the challenges of a dynamic business environment, according to results from a national test.

Four of the graduates scored in the top 3 percent (the 97th percentile): David White, Wellington, Kaushik Venkatesh, Henderson, Nev., Misty Schartz, Ellis, and Jay Connelly, Norfolk, Neb.

Monica Taskinen, Salina, scored in the top 10 percent, and Amy Rose, Overland Park, and Clinton Westover, Vancouver, Wash., scored in the top 25 percent nationally on the Educational Testing Service's Major Field Test (MFT). These scores place them among the top graduates in the nation.

FHSU administers the MFT in business to graduating MBA students each semester. The test was developed to assess the skills of graduating MBA students.

In addition to factual knowledge, the test evaluates the student's ability to analyze and solve problems, understand relationships, and interpret material. It also provides an assessment of faculty teaching effectiveness and identifies areas of improvement in the MBA curriculum.

The test consists of 124 multiple-choice questions, half of which are based on short, case-study scenarios. Several skill sets are measured, including marketing, management, finance and managerial accounting. More than 130 colleges and universities in the United States administer this exam.

"These exit scores show that Fort Hays State University MBA graduates stand shoulder to shoulder with the best anywhere," said Dr. Mark Bannister, dean of FHSU's College of Business and Entrepreneurship. "These students' achievements speak well of them and of our university's Master's of Business Administration program."
