"The Waters of Kansas -- Cheyenne Bottoms," the first film in a series of short documentaries on water in Kansas by the Kansas Natural Resource Council, will be screened at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, 10 miles northeast of Great Bend on K-156.

"We have been working on this project with Sharon Ashworth and the Kansas Natural Resources Council for the last year," said Curtis Wolf, KWEC manager. "They received a grant to produce several short documentaries about water resources in Kansas, and one of them focuses on Cheyenne Bottoms."

The films are intended to prompt discussion of Kansans' relationship with water as the state struggles to deal with water quality and quantity issues. A public discussion of local water issues, moderated by Robert Penner, Cheyenne Bottoms and avian programs manager for the Nature Conservancy and a KNRC board member, will follow the film.

Light refreshments will be provided, and casual discussions are encouraged after the formal program.
